Blackwind Lancers

Blackwind Lancers

the 14th (Zurich) Lancers during the Amaris conflict, one battalion of this regiment served on temporary (and unofficial) loan by Barbara Liao to the forces of Aleksandr Kerensky in the closing stages of the Amaris-Kerensky conflict. With the onset of the Succession Wars, the Lancers were withdrawn from the northern provinces of the Confederation to help deal with increased Davion attacks along the Chesterton border. The Lancers repeatedly engaged forces of the Federated Suns while contesting ownership of the planets Demeter, Algot, Halloran V, and New Aragon. Though defeated on each occasion, the Lancers made up for their initial poor showings by destroying two battalions of Davion’s Avalon Hussars during an attack on the then-major Mech production center of Jaipur.

The Lancers’ raid on Royalston in 2922 uncovered a hitherto-unknown Star League storehouse jammed full of spare ‘Mech parts. While attempting to make off with their loot, the Lancers were surprised by a reserve battalion of the Capellan March Militia come to claim ownership. Rather than give up their booty, the Lancers stood their ground—a fateful decision as it turned out, as Davion reinforcements soon arrived. Given the option to surrender, the Lancers’ commander replied by launching a massive charge against the enemy. The Blackwind Lancers were destroyed.

Reconstituted in 2950, the Lancers avenged their comrades’ deaths by destroying a Davion AeroSpace depot on Bacum in 2952. Since that time, the Lancers have engaged in a series of search-and-destroy missions against Davion targets of opportunity, generally coming out on the losing side but always inflicting enough damage to win the continued respect of their opponents.

UPDATE

Free Capella

The Blackwind Lancers have a proud heritage dating back to General Kerensky’s long-ago crusade against Stefan Amaris the Usurper. When the Compact seceded from the Capellan Confederation, the Lancers remained with the SIMC, honoring their many years of service to St. lves and Duchess Liao. For nearly three decades, the Blackwind Lancers guarded the Compact’s border against Confederation raids. In 3040, they took the fight to the Confederation in response to an assault that killed thousands on Indicass.

Ironically, the Lancers’ actions in a similar incident prompted Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao to launch his invasion of the St. yes Compact. The Lancers’ second battalion launched an unauthorized attack against Chancellor Liao’s entourage on the border world of Hustaing, apparently in an attempt to capture or kill him. Instead, they found themselves surrounded and outgunned. They fought savagely to escape the trap, surrendering only when they realized there was no way out.

After its repatriation to the Compact, the second battalion took to the field once more in its homeland’s defense. During the fighting, they discovered circumstantial evidence suggesting that their commander may have been a Capellan agent, though nothing has yet been proved. The full Blackwind Lancers regiment eventually reunited on Ambergrist under the command of Colonel Warner Doles, flying the flag of Free Capella as its premier unit. There, they resolutely held the line against the CCAF until the end of the war. Rather than submit to the Confederation, the Lancers slipped away in the confusion following the armistice and rejoined Treyhang Liao.

The Blackwind Lancers’ colors were stricken after the second battalion’s disgrace on Hustaing. They currently use the Free Capella crest as their insignia. The Lancers paint their equipment tan and ivory with blue highlights.
