The newest of the mercenary forces to join the Magistracy, Ramilies Raiders was formed from the remnants of mercenary units destroyed in the early days of the Third Succession War. Major Newton Ramilie is the second officer to command the Raiders, following the death of his father in the spring of 3022. In the past, the Raiders alternated service with the Capellan Confederation and the Federated Suns. Contract difficulties (especially when in service to Maximilian Liao) forced them to change sides frequently. After a final breach with the Capellan Confederation in 3022, the Raiders quit Liao space in a hurry. Stopping only to raid a Capellan border arsenal along the way, the Raidersnow with a price on their headswithdrew to the Magistracy, where they have served as a reaction force. Despite the units relatively small size, it consists of hard-core professional soldiers, whose performance and reliability-are considerably above the average Canopian regiment.
The Raiders were formed from the remnants of other mercenary units in the early years of the Third Succession War. For the first few decades of their existence, the Raiders bounced back and forth between the Capellan Confederation and the Federated Suns, tarnishing their reputation with several contract breaches but always managing to land work because of the perpetual demand for troops during those years. After a final breach of contract with the Confederation, the Raiders decided they had worn out their stay in the Inner Sphere. Stopping only to raid a Liao supply center, the mercenary command fled into the Periphery where it found employment with the Magistracy of Canopus, which desperately needed border defenders at the time.
Since that time, Ramilies Raiders have adopted much more professional standards and have even begun to erase the black marks caused by their earlier multiple contract breaches. For years, the units personal ties to the Magestrix of Canopus virtually ensured that the Raiders would never leave Canopian employ. But the Canopians have recently downgraded the units loyalty rating to Reliable, and the Raiders are reportedly planning to venture into the Inner Sphere again.
The Raiders use a dark red color scheme with black striping. The unit insignia is a pirate riding atop a Leopard DropShip; it is painted on the torsos of the units BattleMechs and the fuselages of its aerospace fighters.
